Mitch Albom is a best-selling author, radio broadcaster and charity campaigner of America.Up to this day,he has published seven literary works:Tuesdays with Morrie,The Five People You Meet in Heaven,For One More Day,Have a Little Faith,The Time Keeper,The First Phone Call From Heaven and The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto, all of which have been a great success.Combining his tender feelings with the reality of the world,as well as death with life,he created a fantastic world, which aroused many readers' feelings, and won the name of "Master of the Healing Literature of North America".But the study of his writing is still in a fledging period in the academic circles and there are only a few related research papers, which gives us plenty of room for the further study.Section ?,introducing Mitch Albom's life.Mitch Albom, who was born in an American Jewish family and grew up with a good Jewish education, often questioned his beliefs. After he graduated from the college,he settled in Detroit and worked as a sports reporter. Not until he learned that Professor Morrie, who was his teacher at college, was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS),did he slow down his work for the time being. He went to visit his teacher and took this as an opportunity to start his literary writing.Section ?,analyzing Albom's works from the perspective of narratology.Firstly, the topic of death is the main theme throughout his works. His two documentary literature novels focus on the process of death, while the other five fiction focus on the world that is after death and how the living people face death. He shows the two different stages of death in his two different types of narrative works.Secondly, the narrative strategy of Albom's works is a narrative structure combining the linear narrative with the nonlinear narrative.Meanwhile,he puts the fragments into the passage constantly in order to enrich the main clue of the depiction.Section ?,analyzing Albom's works from the humane care and the best-selling reasons. In his novels,he focuses on "the ordinary people",discusses the real life widely, and refers to the topic of "death" and "healing" which is concerned by today's generation. His books are easy to read and strike a chord. The readers can acquire some breathing room, heal and release the pain which is brought by the death in the real life, reexamine what is death on earth, and realize "the healing power" which is behind death. At the same time,I try to compare Mitch Albom with Yoshimoto Banana who is a Japanese woman writer. The difference between the two writers is that Albom puts particular emphasis on the objective description and the reconciliation of the character and the life, while Yoshimoto places particular stress on the subjective mood and the personal growth.
