D·H·Lawrence’s writings, including bold erotic description that caused great controversy, had not be translated and introduced into Chinese until the time when our country implemented the policy of reform and opening-up and great amount ideas and works from Western countries were translated to Domestic.Sons and Lovers is one of the most representative works of D.H.Lawrence(David Herbert Lawrence,1885-1930)and one of its most controversial works. From the 1980 s to the present, about 30 years or so,there are 18 Chinese translations of Sons and Lovers and the number of such translations can be said to be considerable.Due to the influence of poetics or ideology or the needs of the reader or patrons or the translator’s own cultural literacy, these translations show differences of greater or lesser magnitude. But a major event that deserves special attention is the "cultural turn" of translation studies. On the one hand, with the occurrence of the "cultural turn" in translation studies, cultural studies continue to infiltrate into the field of translation. And femi-nism and translation are gradually combined to form Feminist Translation Theory. On the other hand, after the "cultural turn" of translation studies, the focus of translation studies has shifted from a language level to a cultural level, and accordingly, the reliance on domestication or foreignization translation strategies has also changed in translation activities. In this context, with the help of textual reading and textual analy-sis,the author carry out a comparative study of the Chinese translations of two differ-ent gender translators before and after the "cultural turn" in translation studies(one was translated by Li Jian,He Shanqiang, etc.,and published by Sichuan People’s Pub-lishing House in 1986,another was translated by Chen Hongyu and published by Nanjing Yilin Press in 2012),which is based on feminist translation theory and dome-stication/foreignization translation theory. Therefore, the author’s main body of the thesis includes three chapters. The first chapter introduces the "cultural turn" in translation studies and its influence, that is this paper’s cultural background. It contains three sections, and the first section deals with the early-stage preparations and occurance of the "culture turn" inf translationstudies. The second part introduces the relationship of the "cultural turn" in translation studies and feminist translation theory. On the one hand,it introduces how the feminist combined whit translation under the influence of the "cultural turn" of translation studies;on the other hand,it introduces the main points of feminist translation theory. In the third section,it introduces the relationship of the "cultural turn" in translation studies and domestication/alienation translation theory. On the one hand,it introduces the reinterpretation of domestication/foreignization under the influence of the "cultural turn" in translation studies;on the other hand,it introduces the localization of the concept of domestication/foreignization after they were introduced into China. The second chapter is a comparative analysis of the two Chinese translations of Sons and Lovers under the care of feminist translation theory. It contains four sections. The first section analyzes the Chen translation how to use the feminist translation strategy from the two aspects of adding preface, footnotes and additions. The second section com-pares the differences on the two Chinese translations from the two aspects of women’s identities and women’s language. The third section compares and analyzes the differences between the two Chinese translations from the relationship between woman and man.It includes the analysis of the relationship between the Morel’s couple and the relationship between Paul and Mrs.Morel,Miriam and Clara. The fourth section analyzes the differences between the two Chinese translations from the female image and female psychology. The third chapter analyzes the application of translation strategies of domesticization and foreignization in the two Chinese translations of sons and lovers. It contains three sections. The first section introduces the linguistic background and cultural background from the original work of son and lover. The second section analyzes the two Chinese versions how to deal with the language in the original work.On the one hand,it states that Li translated the language of the original text by the domesticization method;on the other hand,it elaborates that Chen translated the source language by the method of combining domesticization and foreignization. The third section analyzes the handling of the original culture by the two Chinese versions in terms of the customs and culture behind the language and the Christian culture.
