This translation report is based on the first chapter of the British short novel Witch Wood.This novel is written by John Buchan.The whole story revolves around religious,such as ministers,preach,the dispute between justice and evil and so on.The selected chapter is about what the hero saw and heard at the first time in Woodilee.The novel is very readable because the romantic and meticulous character portrays,ups and downs storyline,mysterious and colorful religious stories,and at same time,a large number of description methods used by the author.Therefore,the source text is worth translating for the above facts.The translator tries to use the equal value translation theory as a guide to carry out translation work.Due to its guide practice ability and strong operation,it can summarize the methods used in translation,interpret them according to specific cases and propose corresponding strategies.As the literary works pay attention to the attainment of meaning,the author pays attention to the processing and expression of the language during translation.It is necessary to make the reader better understand the article as far as possible to convey the author's intentions.Through this translation report,the author hopes to combine the equivalence translation theory with the practice of novel translation to provide a useful reference for the translation of novels,especially those related to religion.
