A Study On The Use Of Geographical Names At County Level And Above In China Since The Founding Of The People's Republic Of China

China is a vast country with long history,which has plenty of geographical names.As a kind of intangible cultural heritage,these geographical names not only recorded the changes in the natural environment and the development of society,but also recorded the glory civilization history of the Chinese nation for 5,000 years.At present,the research scope of the academic circles on geographical names is mainly concentrated in the study of individual names of provinces,cities,villages and towns.Most of them are synchronic and static qualitative descriptions.The historical study of national geographical names is still blank.The innovation of this paper lies in the use of historical comparisons,inductive statistics and quantitative analysis to exhaustively analyze the situation of county-level and city-level geographical names since the founding of the People's Republic of China.Moreover,we also summarize the impact of language and character specifications of each period on the geographical names.This paper consists of six parts:Chapter One:Introduction.This chapter introduces the significance of the study on geographical names,current academic research status and the research direction of this paper.Chapter Two:Conceptual definition.This chapter defines concepts such as"geographical names" and "Chinese characters used in the geographical names" used in this paper,and classifies and describes the Chinese characters in the geographical names on the basis of the statistical results of geographical names in 2017Chapter Three:The basic situation of the Character Species and Quantities in the geographical names.In this Chapter,we have selected a few typical years(1954,1965,1976,1990,and 2017).In the axle of time,we analyze the basic situation of the Character Species and Quantities in the geographical names with the use of correlated software.Chapter Four:The change of the Chinese characters used in the geographical names and the reasons.Based on the results of the Chapter Three,analyze the basic trend of the change and explain the reasons in depth.Chapter Five:The impact of the change of geographical names.This part mainly analyzes from both positive and negative influence.Chpater Six:The suggestions for the standardization of geographical name.Based on the above analysis,we have summarized the five features of the Chinese characters used in the geographical names,and put forward effective suggestions for the standardization of geographical name.
