Based on schema theory and knowledge visualization,this study explores the effectiveness of the application of Mind Map in arousing students,learning interest,stimulating students,logic awareness of the passage and summarizing the ability and improving students' reading proficiency.The author chooses students from Chengyi College of Jimei University as the experimental subjects.During 12-week experiments in two parallel classes with different teaching methods,all the data are collected from pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire,from test before and after the experiment and interview after the experiment.By using SPSS21.0,all the data are analyzed to get the conclusion that using Mind Map in college English reading teaching can stimulate students' interest in English reading,can be better to help students grasp the main purpose of the article,and improve the level of students' reading comprehension.According to the data of pre-questionnaire and post-questionnaire,students'interest in English reading has raised from 46.9%to70.15%.The ability of stimulating students' logic awareness of the passage and summarizing the reading material has improved from 39.21%to 76.12%and from 33.79%to 67.17%respectively.From the result,74.64%of students think that it is of great help for them to improve reading ability and 85.08%students think highly of the new teaching method.The students without significant difference in English level are divided into experimental class and control class.The results of Post-test shows,the score interval between 60 and 75 in EC is 34.43%while that of CC is 27.50%.It is obvious to see the striking difference of the proportion over 75 in EC and CC.The average scores in EC are 65.9016 which are higher than CC with the score of 54.3750.The data confirms the effectiveness of the application of Mind Map in improving students'reading proficiency.Eight students are randomly selected from EC to conduct an interview.From their feedback,students think high of the application of Mind Map in teaching English reading.The use of Mind Mapping has improved the ability of understanding the structure of texts and summarizing articles.It deepens the memory of reading content,expands the space of thinking,and improves the reading proficiency.At the same time,the interview also reflects the limitations of this study.In the end,some suggestions are put forward for the limitations of this study,and the application of Mind Mapping in other areas of English teaching is discussed.It is also discussed how to better achieve the ideal application effectiveness from the perspective of the cooperation between teachers and students.
