"Youth" is a symbol of enthusiasm,and it is also an extension of impetuousness.It is not only a common concept in modern society,but also implies the deep implication of age characteristics and intergenerational relationships.Innovation,enthusiasm and hope are synonymous with youth.As young people's lifestyles and cultural forms have gradually become the research objects of mainstream society,the study of youth culture and even young subculture is undergoing a process of transmutation from being ignored to being noticed.As a minority culture,subculture has gradually attracted the attention of the society.However,many studies conducted at home and abroad lack an in-depth analysis,focusing more on the interpretation of resistance and collection from the perspective of cultural politics,ignoring the aesthetic dimensions and identity of subculture.Enriching the content of these two parts is an important task for writing.The purpose of this paper is to display the youth subculture achievements of Dick Hebdige and the Birmingham School in three-dimensional comprehension by exploring the background of youth subculture theory,subcultural style and its aesthetic dimension,the political resistance function and limitation of subculture,subculture and identity.On the one hand,it strengthens our understanding of subculture theories,remedying the regret of neglecting the subculture aesthetics in previous studies;on the other hand,it provides a reference for the construction of our youth subculture theory.It mainly involves the background of Hebdige youth subculture theory—social background,cultural background and theoretical background,subcultural style and its aesthetic dimension—style definition,style composition and postmodernity turn of style,subcultural political resistance and its limitations-political resistance and collection theory,subculture and identity-the development of identity,the development of identity research,and the identity of Hebdige's youth subculture theory.The conclusion part explores the advantages and disadvantages of Hebdige's youth subculture theory by combing Hebdige's subculture theory on the contribution of subculture studies and even the Birmingham school's contribution,its limitations,and its reference and inspiration for China's subculture research.The reason why Hebdige's youth subculture theory was selected for research is that Hebdige conducted a more focused study of subculture.The style theory involved is an important result of subculture studies,ethnographic investigations,field surveys and "audit surveys" also distinguishes it from general literary studies that focus only on symbol analysis in the study.Hebdige's theory conveys us a unique subculture aesthetics concept.The most distinctive quality of this aesthetic concept is the combination of aesthetic style and political resistance.The combination of resistance and aestheticism is exactly the highlight of Hebdige's youth subculture theory.However,looking at the research of Hebdige's theory at home and abroad,it has become a common problem that the material is too monotonous,and the not systematic research also restricts the development of youth subculture theory.The current status of these studies just provides the necessary conditions for the writing of this paper.Although,with the improvement of the degree of openness in the society,the adjustment of the class structure,the gradual equality of genders,and the intensification of identity flows,Hebdige's youth subculture theory seems to have gradually faded out of sight.However,it is very difficult to jump out of the framework of this theoretical study through the study of subcultures in the later period.Hebdige's youth subculture theory has already become the only way to study subculture.Young people are chasing each other's personality and fashion,once again pushing youth subculture research into the public eye.This article is trying to analyze Hebdige's youth subculture theory,fill in the shortage of youth subculture research,pay attention to the composition of style,focus on resistance collection,and pay attention to identity,in order to establish a more complete research system.
