Traditional Chinese villages,which integrate tangible cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage,witness the development of agricultural civilization in the past thousands of years.Those villages have been faced with many difficulties in the process of industrialization and urbanization,while Britain is a country with mature concepts and successful experience in the village protection.With the lessons drawn from the Britain,it will be more effective for us to protect villages.Book of British Villages,which vividly introduces 700 British villages to readers in form of special topics,aims at popularize the history and traditional culture of British villages.Therefore,the translation of such text not only helps readers better understand the traditional villages,raising the awareness of protection,and provides new way of fixing problems faced by the traditional villages in China.Under the guidance of Newmark's theory on textual function,this thesis chooses the topic "Village Crafts" in Book of British Villages as the research object.This special topic introduces British traditional villages and village crafts.In the process of translation,the translator summarizes the feature of the informative text based on the textual function theory,and the original text was confirmed as the informative text.Guided by the Newmark's Communicative Translation theory,the report follows the principles of loyalty,accuracy and acceptability in the translation practice.From the perspective of lexicon,syntax and discourse,this report specifically applies the translation methods of literal translation,context translation,linear translation,voice alteration translation,and amplification,etc.,to achieve the textual informative function and the purpose of communication.
