A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of Autobiography Text

Translator chooses Swimming with Seals?excerpts?written by a newly-emerged British writer Victoria Whitworth as the translation material.The thesis shows the whole process starting from choosing text to writing translation report.This book was published on 20^th,April 2017 and hasn't been translated by other translators yet.By analyzing this text on the whole,based on relevant translation theories and strategies,translator not only comprehends the situation and theories of translation on autobiographical prose,but also analyzes the translation by using translation theories.There are five parts in this report,and they are the description of translation task,the translation process,the problems and solutions while translating and the summary of translation practice.The first part introduces the information of writer of the source text,the value of source text,the characteristic of language in source text and the reason to choose this text;the second part shows the whole process of translation,including the analysis before translation,the ways of translating,the summary after translation.The third part shows the theoretical framework of this report-Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation.The fourth part is the main section of the report and it gathers the problems during translation and analyses the characteristic of words,sentences and paragraphs by using translation strategies like amplification,omission,literal translation and free translation under the guidance of translation theories of semantic translation and communicative translation,etc.The last part summarizes the translation practice.By practicing English-Chinese translation on Swimming with Seals,translator learned the methods and skills while dealing with specific words,different kinds of sentences and paragraphs,at the same time,translator does not only learn translation theories deeper,but also improves translation ability.Additionally,the report is expected to provide some referential value and significance to the literary translation enthusiasts.
