Based on previous researches, this thesis intends to further systematically summarise the influence of Stevens's poetry on contemporary Chinese poet Zhang Zao from three aspects:Stevens's poetic art,Zhang Zao's translation of Stevens's poems, and the acceptance and transcendence of Zhang Zao's writing to Stevens's influence.Stevens is a modern poet deeply influenced by the Imagism and the American New Poetry Movement in the early twentieth century. However,The essence of the American New Poetry Movement is a "Chinese Fever".The American modern poetry internalized Chinese classical poetry and in turn influenced Chinese modern poetry. It is shown that,"Stevens's imagination was developed under the influence of Oriental Literature and art",and the image and poetic prospect of Stevens's works can trace back to the Oriental philosophy. He learned a lot from the Chinese poetry and paintings, meanwhile, combined with his poetic idea of imagination,Stevens created the artistic conception of virtual reality.Compared with other translators,Zhang Zao understood Stevens's poetry better due to his long exposure to Stevens's works and his own rich wirting experience.Zhang Zao's translation is a kind of adaptation to Chinese context, which is a combination of Oriental classics and modern western poems. In order to bring Stevens's works to Chinese context,Zhang Zao translated the associative and figurative meanings of the original works, creatively making the limited images in original poetry into infinite artistic conception.Zhang Zao added the classical implication to original works, making it more consistent with Chinese context, which is a kind of domesticating and elegant translation. The acceptance and transcendence of Zhang Zao's writing to the influence of Stevens's works are mainly reflected in the following three aspects:first,Zhang Zao learned to use metaphor from Stevens to rediscover the modern implication of Chinese traditional images, realising the pursuit of fiction and modernity in Chinese new poetry.Second,Zhang Zao learned to create poetic prospect within the text and explored the artistic conception of poetry from daily life.Zhang Zao pioneered the application of poetic prospect to modern interpretation of the classical themes;Third,Stevens's imaginary poetry——the imagination of the poet changes ordinary world——enlightened Zhang Zao.He penetrated this kind of imagination into the level of words and things, breaking the stereotyped thinking pattern of the existing discourse. He searched and named the blank space, forming a unique "Blank Poetics".
