The Report On The Translation Of Poetic Essays

A Collect of Philosophy is an essay written by Wallace Stevens.This essay discusses the relationship between philosophy and poetry,and the relationship between philosophers and poets.By completing the translation of A Collect of Philosophy,it is beneficial for domestic scholars to further understand Wallace Stevens' poetics theory and of certain significance to the comprehensive study of Stevens.At present,the translation of Stevens in China mainly focuses on poetry and there are translations of his poems and essays.The content is limited and not sufficient.In the process of translation,the author analyzes the text features of "A Collect of Philosophy" at first,and then summarizes the difficulties in the process of translation like abstract nouns,compound sentences and parallel sentences,philosophical views and poetic views at the lexical level,syntactic level and semantic level.Finally,the author flexibly uses translation strategies in the translation process,adopts the method of omission and word conversion to translate abstract nouns,and adopts the method of phrasing and linear translation to deal with the translation of complex sentences and parallel sentences,and adopts the similar language style of parallel texts to express the characteristic of the essay and translates philosophical views and the translation of the poetics views by restoring the original textual perspectives,thereby the author can translate the source texts faithfully and accurately.The report shows that the contents of essays are more casual and have the high ideological level.In order to ensure an accurate translation of the original textual thoughts,the author must make an in-depth analysis of the source text,understand the ideas the essay contains,and then interpret the thoughts in the appropriate language style.Through this practice of translation,the author has improved abilities of English reading and translation.I hope this report will be of some help and reference value to other translators.
