After nearly 40 years' reform and opening up,a dramatic change has happened to China. It has not only established a relatively complete material production system, but also has maintained a continuous and rapid growth in economy, and has also greatly improved the living standards of Chinese people and the level of social development, which attracts more focus on China from various media of different nations, especially from American mainstream media. So,to them, what does China look like? How do they display the image of China? Is China in their description real and objective? And as a translator, how to truly and effectively deliver these relevant information to Chinese readers by studying on the characteristics of China-related news report and its translation strategies, becomes rather important and urgent. At the end of 1980s,a new kind of translation theory appeared,i.e."Translafectology".It is a new theory, but its presence provides a new perspective for traditional translation theory."Translafectology" acknowledges that,as a kind of cross-lingual social and cultural communication, the result of translation must have permanent or temporary, small or huge, deep or shallow influences or effects on all aspects of target group like culture, society and economy, which can be collectively called "translation effect".In "Translafectology",original text is seen as the original model or reference of occurrence of effect, and as the active subject of triggering translation effect, translator is constrained by effect expectation in selecting strategies during translation. However, once the translation is completed, that is to say,the information transfer between target language and target readers is realized, and the translator will no longer be limited by effect expectation, and afterwards he can not continue to control explicit or implicit, strong or weak, temporary or permanent, positive or negative effects of his translation on language, culture, society, economy, politics, even on the ideology and values of the whole target society.Starting from translation's entering the target readers, taking as research subject the different influences or effects on all aspects of target group such as society, economy, culture and science,"Translafectology" is centered on translation effect, which is a knowledge of studying selection strategies of original text during translation, general translation principles and specific approaches, translation evaluation, historical tracking of various effects of translation on target group. Therefore,"Translafectology" provides theoretical basis and practical guidance for China-related news translation, and meanwhile,it is of great significance to study the translation of China-related news from the perspective of "Translafectology".Under the guidance of "Translafectology",through searching for relevant China-related news corpus on internet, this thesis will make analysis for these corpus by knowing about China-related news from American mainstream media and its current translation situation,to find out the effect expectations of American mainstream media on information broadcasting and of translators on translation, and summarize the incorrect interpretation of this kind of news report and the reasons,so as to explore the corresponding solutions and strategies to this kind of news translation. The author finally makes the conclusion that,in order to achieve the effect expectation of news spreading, during translation, translators should be based on the three translation principles(i.e.Communication,acceptability and similarity)by Prof.Fan Zhongying, but during specific translation operation, translators should employ various kinds of translation approaches like omission, addition, adaptation and free translation.
