A Study Of The Interpretation Of Four-character Structures In The Central Leaders' Speeches From The Perspective Of Translation Aesthetics

With the development of economic globalization,the relationship between China and the world is getting increasingly closer in the field of economy and culture.The speeches made by Chinese state leaders at various conferences have becoming a major source for the broad masses and the international society to learn about China's economic and political development.Therefore,the interpretation of the speeches plays a crucial role in international contacts.Recent years have witnessed the tendency towards “elegance” of the language of the leaders' speeches,with the increase of employment of four-character structures.Hence,the qualities of four-character structures' interpretation will produce an important impact on the reproduction of the content.On account of the concise structures,melodious modulation in tone and rich implications,Chinese four-character structures are extremely beautiful which enrich and beautify the speeches,but how to represent the cultural connotation and aesthetic features of the four-character structures is becoming a challenge to the interpretation.Translation aesthetics,an organic combination of aesthetic and translation,with strong Chinese characteristics,is the essence of Chinese traditional aesthetic translation theory which merges abundant connotations of western aesthetics,providing a significant instructing function for translators to pursue the artistic values of translation texts.At present,a flood of researches are conducted on the translation of four-character structures.Those on E-C translation mostly centers on view of translation and literary translation,which analyze the characteristics of four-character structures and the application of four-character structures in E-C Translation.The researches on C-E Translation focus on the field of pragmatic texts and are often from the perspective of language transformation.Although aesthetics is sometimes involved,of the researches are scattered and emotional.The study of interpretation of four-character structures with the guidance of aesthetic theory is less,and the study aimed for the aesthetic presentation and interpretation strategy in the leaders' speeches is rare.Therefore,this thesis attempts to apply the modern translation aesthetics to the study of four-character structures interpretation in central leaders' speeches and tries to adopt the speech texts from various conferences as theresearch objects for demonstration.This thesis mainly uses Professor Liu Miqing's translation aesthetics as a guidance,enlightened by Xu Yuanchong's theory of“Three-Beauty Principle” and is on the basis of the classification of beauties of Mao Ronggui.Based on these studies,the author establishes theoretical framework for the research and discusses the aesthetical values of four-character structures in the leaders' speeches.The author found that many aesthetical values of the original text can be reproduced in the interpretation,while some aesthetical values which are inconvenient for reproduction or cannot be reproduced can be transformed into other aesthetical qualities,thus ensuring the literary value of interpretation.In this thesis,the author also attempts to compare the rendering of the same four-character structures in different text types and summarizes the differences between interpretation and literary translation of four-character structures.
