A Report On The Translation Of Yoga As Medicine:the Yogic Prescription For Health&Healing(Chapter 3) From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation Theory

This is an E-C translation report on the translation of Chapter 3(Yoga For Stress Relief)of the book Yoga as Medicine:The Yogic Prescription for Health&Healing written by Timothy McCall.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory proposed by Peter Newmark,the translation report explores the application of communicative translation in the translation of an informative text by analyzing translation difficulties and corresponding strategies.The report points out that Peter Newmark's theory of communicative translation is of great significance to the translation of informative texts.This report reviews and summarizes the entire process of the translation.It makes an introduction to the characteristics of the original text as an informative text and the communicative translation theory which guides the translation practice.The report mainly analyzes two major difficulties the translator met with in the process of translation,namely,how to translate the words of the original text well and how to deal with the long and difficult sentences well.Based on Newmark's communicative translation theory,the translation report makes an analysis of cases from the lexical level and syntactical level,and discusses how to choose appropriate translation strategies to achieve communicative effects.It is concluded that at the lexical level,the translation version should conform to the expression habits of target readers on the basis of conveying the information of the original text.At the syntactical level,the translator should not stick to the form of the original text.Translation techniques such as inversion and division can be adopted to make the translation readable and intelligible so as to help target readers to grasp the key information quickly.
