Nowadays,in the process of English teaching, writing part is not only critical, but also difficult.Students' problems of losing interest in writing and weak autonomous learning ability are widespread. How to improve students' English writing proficiency, help students change the negative writing attitude and promote autonomous and cooperative learning ability is the research focus of educators. As science and technology develop rapidly, more and more teachers use the Internet and multimedia technology in their teaching.Driven by the progress of information technology, the flipped classroom, which first appeared in America, grows rapidly all over the world. The distinctive feature of flipped classroom is that the instruction of knowledge is finished before class while the internalization of knowledge is achieved in class.Domestic scholars of all subjects have also done researches on flipped classroom and designed some specific teaching models. The teaching of English is also looking for a change just as the teaching of other subjects. The author refers to relevant literature at home and abroad and makes a summary of the current research situation related to flipped classroom.Based on the features of flipped classroom and conditions of the interned school(Kaifeng NO.17 high school)in all aspects, the author tries to apply the flipped classroom to high school English writing class and designs an appropriate teaching model. So,whether the flipped classroom can improve the English writing teaching is the focal point of this research. One hundred and twenty-two students who are in grade two of Kaifeng NO.17 high school are chosen as the experimental subjects. All of them are divided into two parallel classes, including 60 students in the experimental class(class 1)and 62 in the control class(class 2).The experiment lasts for one semester. The author uses tests, questionnaires and the interview to explore the teaching effects of flipped classroom in English writing teaching. This research mainly deals with the following three questions:(1)What are the current problems in high school English writing class?(2)How is the flipped classroom used in high school English writing class?(3)What are the effects of the flipped classroom applied to high school English writing class? The research processes are stated in the following paragraphs:Firstly, before the start of contrastive experiment, the author asked students of experimental class and control class to take a writing test(pre-test)to figure out whether they were qualified as the research subjects. The author could also have a general understanding of students' writing proficiency according to their writing scores. Then, the author conducted a pre-questionnaire survey on all students in the experimental class to learn about students' writing attitude, autonomous and cooperative learning abilities as well as views on the current teaching method.Secondly, the experiment started on September 11,2017 and ended on January 12,2018,lasting for sixteen weeks. The author applied the flipped classroom to English writing class in experimental class, while using traditional method to teach students of control class.Thirdly,at the end of one-semester contrastive experiment, the author asked all students of two classes to take a test(post-test)to learn about the teaching effects. To figure out the changes of students' writing attitude and interest before and after the experiment, the author asked students in experimental class to finish the post-questionnaire.What's more, the author chose five students in experimental class at random and took an interview with them to get more feedback of the flipped classroom. Finally, all data of tests, questionnaires and the interview were used to examine the effects of flipped classroom applied to English writing class. The author collected the data and used SPSS software to analyze them. The research findings are as follows:1.There exist some problems in high school English writing class, which are reflected in the following aspects.(1)Most students are not satisfied with their writing ability.(2)Students' autonomous and cooperative learning awareness is weak.(3)Because the teaching content is insufficient, the cultivation of students' interest, motivation and thinking ability is overlooked. So,how to construct a new teaching model to change the current situation is an urgent problem to be solved. It is a new attempt for teachers to apply the flipped classroom to English writing class.2.The whole teaching process is divided into three stages: pre-class,while-class,and after-class.Students watch teaching videos and finish tasks through computer by themselves before class. With the help of teacher, students deal with problems through self-exploration and group discussion to finish the process of internalization of knowledge in class.Students make the summary and reflection in time after class.3.The flipped classroom can stimulate students' writing interest and change their negative writing attitude.Student's writing ability is improved in the flipped classroom. At the same time, the autonomous and cooperative abilities are also trained. This empirical research, which achieved the expected results generally, proved the flipped classroom can improve the English writing teaching. The author hopes it can give some enlightenment to the reform of English writing class in high school. However, due to the factors of insufficient teaching experience, short period of teaching experiment, and the incomplete teaching infrastructure, there are still limitations in this study. Therefore, the author puts forward the suggestions and expectations for the further research.
