As an important part of the military activities,medical personnel like military surgeons have already appeared in the military in the pre-Qin period.The military surgeons gradually became clear from the Qin and Han Dynasties to the Sui and Tang Dynasties.In the later periods of the Five Dynasties,it was the first time that “military surgeons” was mentioned.After a long period of development,it has been continuously enriched and improved in the Song Dynasty.In the Jin,Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties,the institutionalization of military medicine was further strengthened.In the Song Dynasty,there were more livestock diseases,which promoted the progress of veterinary technology.Medical education was more comprehensive,which established a solid theoretical foundation for the training of military surgeons.In the meantime,medical institutions became more complete,providing adequate medicine to the military medical and veterinarians.The rulers also provided policy support by rewarding medicine,sending doctors to diagnosis and treatment,sending medical edicts,and so on,which gave birth to a breeding ground for the training of military medicine.From the perspective of the selection mode,the Song Dynasty was mobilized from the central government to the local government,and then to the official recruitment.When the medical officers in the capital were in flooded,some of them would be sent out to local places to integrate medical resources.In case of war injury or disease,occupational medicine(Doctor of Medicine)should also take part in medicine and treatment.The initial establishment of military medical preparations in the Song Dynasty showed that each military had a relatively fixed quota,but the scope was relatively vague.There was a clear staffing establishment of personnel in the Ming Dynasty.The army was equipped with medical and veterinarians in case of battle,when stationed in the village,it was equipped with medical personnel,which also reflected the principle of timeliness and local conditions.The responsibilities of military surgeon in the Song Dynasty were clear,and there was a distinction between prevention and medical care,which also facilitated the management of military surgeon.According to the records of military medical treatment,the government of the Song Dynasty performed rigorous rewards and punishment,and management was more standardized.However,the development of the military surgeon in Song Dynasty still had some limitations,and there were inevitably some mediocre doctors who who did nothing and were not good at medicine.
