In the English-Chinese simulated consecutive interpretation, the author chooses a speech Current Trends in Business Education as the practice material. It was delivered by Michael Powell,Emeritus Professor of Griffith University and is about 90 minutes. This report focuses on the issues and solutions found in the simulated interpretation practice. The full text consists of four parts, which are introduction, process of the simulated interpreting, case analysis and conclusion. The preparations before simulated interpretation include three parts: firstly, the author builds up thematic knowledge, searches background information of the speaker on the Internet, and prepares possible terminology about business education and economy. On the second, the audience and venue chosen by the author are similar with the original to better reconstruct this speech. And then the author takes physical and mental preparations.During the process of the interpreting, the author adopts reasonable simplification, zero translation, and re-expression to deal with the difficult points in interpreting the impromptu speech. After the interpreting, the author transfers the recording into target and source text.Based on Gile’s pattern of energy allocation, the author reflects that the target text exists the traces of thought and mistranslation.Through doing the simulated interpretation practice and analyzing the cases, the author gains a lot: firstly,pre-interpreting preparations should follow the pattern and make use of the Internet.Secondly, the interpreter should adjust mental attitudes through the whole interpreting. Finally, appropriate strategies to interpret impromptu speeches are reasonable simplification, zero translation, and re-expression.
