Vocabulary plays a very important role in cultivating the basic skills of listening,speaking,reading,and writing among middle school students.This study took the junior high school students from Wuhan city as research subjects,who were divided into two groups:high-score students and low-score students,and the high-score students were further distinguished by gender.By undertaking questionnaires and interviews,this study carried out a comparative study of the English vocabulary learning concepts and English vocabulary learning strategies between high-score students and low-score students on one hand,and between boy students and girl students in high-score group on the other.With an SPSS statistical analysis,it is found that there are significant differences in both English vocabulary learning concepts and English vocabulary strategies between high-score students and low-score students,while these significant differences cannot be found between boys and girls in high-score group.Based on the comparative study of the English vocabulary learning concepts and English vocabulary learning strategies between high-score students and low-score students,this study,with reference to the English vocabulary learning strategies used by high-score students and to the interview of the high-score students,provides some suggestions for the low-score students to improve their vocabulary learning strategies,so as to promote their vocabulary learning efficiency.The research outputs will shed light on the English teaching of the school under study and on that of other middle schools with similar teaching quality.This study will help their teachers to understand better their students' English vocabulary learning strategies and thus to enhance their English classroom teaching.
