As a carrier of language expression and understanding,vocabulary plays an important role in English learning.The “Compulsory Education Curriculum Standards”(2011 edition)requires junior high school students to learn more than 1500 words and 200-300 fixed collocations before graduation.In addition,they also need to master the basic meaning and context meaning of one word,which are big challenges for junior high school students.Researchers have found that learners can greatly reduce academic burden and improve vocabulary learning effect if they master vocabulary learning strategies which match their own learning styles.Therefore,exploring the relationship between the perceptual learning styles and vocabulary learning strategies has a significant meaning to the vocabulary learning in junior high schools.Based on this background,the thesis uses O’Brien’s perceptual learning styles as research theory to investigate the relationship between junior high school students’ perceptual learning styles and English vocabulary learning strategies.Research methods are questionnaires and interview.Respondents are 210 students in one of middle schools in Suqian.The thesis includes 3 main research questions.First,what is the general tendency of junior high school students’ perceptual learning styles? Second,what is the characteristic of junior high school students in using vocabulary learning strategies? In the end,what are the correlations between junior high school students’ perceptual learning styles and vocabulary learning strategies?After collecting and analyzing the data,the following conclusions are obtained: First of all,the tactile learning style is most commonly used by junior high school students,followed by visual and auditory learning styles.Second,the uses of learning strategies in junior high school present a diversified trend.The most frequently used are cognitive strategies,followed by social and emotional strategies,resource strategies and meta-cognitive strategies.Finally,it is found that there is a correlation between the perceptual learning styles and vocabulary learning strategies.Among them,the visual type is significantly positively correlated with meta-cognition,cognition,and resource strategies;the auditory type is positively correlated with cognition,social and resource strategies;the tactile type is significantly positively correlated with the four vocabulary learning strategies.Through the above research,we know the perceptual learning style tendency of junior high school students and the characteristics of using English vocabulary learning strategies.These not only can help teachers adjust their teaching methods according to students’ styles,but also make students clearly understand their different choices with different perceptual learning styles.In this way,students can broaden their sensory learning channels and enrich vocabulary learning methods,which have certain enlightenment for both sides of English teaching and learning.
