Translation Of Conceptual Metaphor From The Perspective Of Equivalent Effect Theory

As a common linguistic phenomenon,metaphor and its translation have attracted much attention.Metaphor is not only a rhetorical device,but also an important part of the cognitive thinking of human beings.From the traditional rhetoric to cognitive linguistics,the study of metaphorical translation has reached a new level.Many scholars have studied metaphor translation from different points of view.This paper analyzes the translation of conceptual metaphor based on the equivalent effect theory,and aims to further the translation study of conceptual metaphor and develop some feasible techniques for it.This report,which comprises three chapters,is based on an E-C translation practice of Persuadable.Chapter one introduces the background,requirements and features of the translation practice.The following is chapter two,which mainly describes the translation process,including preparation,process of translating and post-translation.Chapter three,the core of this report,firstly focuses on the definition and classification of the conceptual metaphor,and then divides the conceptual metaphor in the source text into three categories,that is,structural metaphor,orientational metaphor and ontological metaphor.Based on the equivalent effect theory,this chapter finally analyzes the translation of conceptual metaphor,and develops some feasible techniques for it.In the last part,the author of this report draws a conclusion,and points out some shortcomings of this translation task and the report for the future study on conceptual metaphor.
