The Belt and Road Initiative has been further promoting the exchange and cooperation in international science and technology.In the context of globalization,English for Science and Technology(EST)plays a very important role.In order to express definitions or concepts clearly and accurately,long sentences are frequently used in EST,posing great challenges for translators.The quality of EST translation is directly attached to the job involving translation of its long sentences,which has an impact on the delivery of information contained in it.So,study on the translation of long sentences in EST is the key to EST translation.Jin Di proposed three concepts in his Equivalent Effect Theory,namely,Receiver,Effectiveness and Equivalence.Receiver is for the need of information delivery;Effectiveness refers to the understanding and feeling of receivers;Equivalence refers to the integration of faithfulness and smoothness.Under the guidance of three concepts of the Equivalent Effect Theory and taking the E-C translation of a science work,named "Perspectives of Plant-associated Microbes in Heavy Metal Phytoremediation",as a case analysis,this paper will do a study toward the translation of long sentences in agricultural EST from the following three aspects,namely,vocabulary,syntax and text,and sum up four methods,namely,sequential method,reversed-order method,division method and integrated method,aiming to provide reference for translation practice of agricultural EST.
