This paper is a translation report on the book Life in Brexit Britain written by Lawrence Buxton, published on September 24,2017.In the process of translating this book, the author deeply realized that due to the huge differences between C hinese and English languages,it is necessary to perform flexible trans formations according to the characteristics of the two languages, rather than mechanically word-by-word correspondence.Guided by Catford‘s theory of translation shifts, the author applies the original English text flexibly converted into authentic Chinese, which makes the translation more fluent and appropriate to the expression of the target language. The first part of the paper is introduction, which mainly introduces the background of the translation project and makes a simple analysis of the characteristics of the translation material. The second part mainly introduces the research status of the theory of translation shifts at home and abroad. The third part is the most important part of the paper.Combining with the case,we use Catford‘s theory to analyze the translation materials in detail.Corresponding to the different aspects of the translation theory,we analyze the different aspects of the translation theory and the translation examples to show the applicability and guiding significance of the theory. The fourth part is the conclusion part, which summarizes the important influence of the theory on the translation of current political texts and provides reference for later scholars.
