Critical thinking skills is an important part of thinking ability under the key competencies of English subject.Nowadays,as a teaching tool of educating people,critical thinking skills is becoming increasingly prominent,which is helpful to promote the cultivation of comprehensive talents,the development of social,political and economy,the progress of science and technology and the prosperity of culture.In our country,the cultivation of students is influenced by the traditional education,so the humanistic education in English classes is neglected greatly.In English teaching,we only attach importance to the acquisition of students' language knowledge and skills,but are lack of cultivating students' critical thinking skill,which leads to the weakening of students' critical thinking skill.High school is a turning point for students' physical and mental changes.It is an important period for students to cultivate their outlook on life and values,and also an important stage for students to develop good thinking habits.Under the key competencies of English subject,the author breaks the traditional English classroom mode,which is based on exam-oriented education,and probes into how to cultivate students' critical thinking skill in English teaching in senior high school.This study first briefly summarizes the critical thinking skills and the key competencies of English subjects.After consulting and analyzing the results of previous studies,the author defines and summarizes the key competencies of English subjects and critical thinking skills in order to explore the relationship between them and construct the dimensions of the post-survey questionnaire.Then,in this study,the author investigated how the teachers,who are in F high School in Nanan District of Chongqing,trained the students' critical thinking skills and the effect of the cultivation.Then the author makes a deep understanding of the English teachers by using the method of interview,and makes use of the method of classroom observation to find out the implementation of the classroom.Through the study,it is found that the students' understanding of critical thinking skills is insufficient.The ways of cultivating students' critical thinking skills are lack of system and the effect is not obvious,especially in the shaping of the key competencies of English subject.Combined with the previous literature research method,this study combs the strategies of cultivating the critical thinking skills in Senior high school English teaching class through the combination of theory and practice.This paper holds that the cultivation of critical thinking skills should pay attention to students' subjectivity,put students in the first place,create classroom thinking atmosphere,igniting the sparks of the thought,guiding questions,and creating thinking dialogue.It also should adopt various teaching methods as the support.At the same time,the complementation of special evaluation methods and the improvement of teachers' critical thinking skills are needed,so that the critical thinking ability in English teaching can be improved step by step.
