Travel is one of the most common social activities of mankind,and is also a common structure and theme in literary works.However,based on the literary history and theoretical research,Chinese travel literature is rich in poetry and prose,but the development of travel narrative literature itself,and the research of it are lagging behind the west.In the late qing dynasty,under the fire of the foreign invaders,China opened the door to the world.The introduction of the advanced western knowledge and mechanical traffic tools,which impacted the Chinese social system,and also created opportunities for China to connect with the world.Therefor,in the late qing dynasty,there was not only a lot of abroad travel notes,but also a large number of novels with the characteristics of travel narrative structure.Since then,Chinese took part in the modem journey.The 1940s travel narrative that researched are at the time that the Chinese nation crisis has reached the apex,Chinese people ushered in the journey under the fire of the invasion,so the journey is unique in cruelty to any other time.At the same time,the new China was bom in the fire and the national journey,so the journey of the 1940s has also nurtured the hope of national independence.The text researches the novels written from 1937 to 1949,based on the war background of the 1940s to interpret the travel novels of the time,and also shows the appearance of the 1940s from the perspective of the travel narrative novels.The introduction including the concept of travel,the research of travel narrative,and the development of travel narrative in ancient and modern times.And the lack of the travel narrative research of 1940s novel is the starting point of this thesis.The body is divided into three chapters based on different travel structures,and the "temporary resident" is adopted to expand the definition of travel.The first chapter begins with a moving tour,explaining "war" is the main motivation of 1940s journey,the travelers' views on the"scenery",and the story of the of the vehicles during the journey.The second chapter discusses the "temporary resident" in the travel."Temporary resident"means"instability"and "stability"mixed with confrontation,which reflects on one hand people unable to get safe in turbulent times,on the other hand they gathered their strength."Travel" and "resident" were both occupied important position in the novel in the last chapter.This chapter based on the "travel-resident"novel,exploring that travel is not personal behaviour,but also can draw the image of the new China in the migration of the whole nation,and reflect the the awakening of the nation's consciousness in the grand historical narrative.With China's rise,Chinese people travel all over the world,China has became a traveling country.In thie era,we explored the travel of our forefathers before the founding of China,and took their turbulent steps compare with the confidence of the Chinese people nowadays.
