| The ancient water towns in southern Yangtze River are those locate in lower reaches of Yangtze River and the north of Zhejiang province.Wuzhen Town is the most shining pearl in these towns.Using the favorable water and soil environment of Hangjiahu plain,it exploited crop fields and developed mulberry agriculture.The commerce was already flourishing in the Southern Song Dynasty.Till Ming and Qing Dynasty,it had become the economic developed traffic hinge and commodity markets with the rich resources of periphery villages and convenient water traffic.The agriculture and commerce of Wuzhen Town drove the economy of this town,long lines of shops and busy ducks as well as countless mansions.Meanwhile,its emphasis on culture and Confucianism made Wuzhen Town a cultural base of Northern Zhejiang.A series of scholars and men of letter such as Mao Dun emerged.Wuzhen Town is the representative of ancient water towns in southern Yangtze River in terms of economy and culture.With the cultural progress and economic development of human society,ancient water towns in southern Yangtze River are losing its old features.Traditional agricultural production,water transportation,lifestyle,folk cultures are dying out.But Wuzhen Town yet reserves fair water transportation environment and water network features.A cross water network consist of five historic water system is now still clear and the houses,stages,temples,water pavilion of Ming and Qing Dynasty are still well preserved.Busy streets,ancient bridges are still main transportation means of people in Wuzhen Town.The river ports of water town characteristics make it the unique witness of water towns in southern Yangtze River culture.It is of great significance for Wuzhen Town's development to protect ancient towns and inherit water town culture nowadays.In 2003,it was listed in China's first historical and cultural names index.In 2014,it was chosen as the permanent site of World Internet Conference and in 2015,the nomination for World Cultural Heritage of ancient water town in southern Yangtze River was officially launched.Wuzhen Town is making its way to the era of globalization for its unique water town characteristics and rich culture.It's important for the protection of Wuzhen Town,renaissance of Chinese cultural and the development of world culture to analyze Wuzhen Town's heritage values from the aspect of world cultural heritage and pass on to the world the values of Wuzhen Town.This thesis combs the historic development venation,analyzes the historical status of Wuzhen Town,looks into the historical functions of all compositions of this town and digs into the traditional cultural life Wuzhen Town inherited through thorough study of relevant historical documents on southern Yangtze River region.Meanwhile,through field research on factors of existing architecture,water system,streets,bridges,river ports of Wuzhen Town,we collected the historical cultural information them inherited and conducted reality and integrity analysis on all compositions of this town.We also analyzed and systemized the prominent general value standards Wuzhen Town possesses from the two aspects of historical data and existing status in accordance with world cultural heritage declaration requirements.On the basis of the value of heritage,using the theory of semiotics and narratology,this paper put forward the concept of value symbol and symbol narration and constructed the theoretical frame of the interpretation and presentation of the heritage value of Wuzhen Town.In the end,taking the East Gate of Wuzhen Town as an example,the paper extracted the value symbols of East Gate,and put forward strategies of interpretation and presentation of it's value.It provides theoretical support and technical guidance for the transmission of Wuzhen value,so as to set up a reference and exemplary role for relevant works of other ancient towns. |
