The Study Of Heritage Interpretation And Presentation In Taierzhuang Historic Town

With the deep-level combination and joint development of culture and tourism,tourism becomes the main method of contemporary heritage utilisation.Historic Town,a kind of tourist attractions which is developed based on historic districts,has been popular in China for a long time.Under the current model of heritage utilisation,numerous historic districts are reconstructed for tourism development,leading to the changes of spatial pattern and architectural style in heritage sites.The authenticity and integrity of the heritage is seriously damaged in this process,intensifying conflicts between tourism development and heritage protection.However,tourism can also give public the opportunity to get close contact with cultural heritage,effectively stimulating the public to actively and deeply explore the cultural heritage and raising public awareness of heritage protection.The interpretation and presentation in scenic area is a crucial resource for tourists to understand heritage values.The definition,objectives,methods and principles of heritage interpretation and presentation was systemically introduced in The ICOMOS Charter for the Interpretation and Presentation of Cultural Heritage Sites,and the promulgation of it makes heritage interpretation and presentation an independent research topic,increasing more and more attention in the field of heritage.Taierzhuang Historic Town is the representative of ancient city scenic spots in northern China with the competitive resources of the Grand Canal heritage and war heritage.The historic town was reconstructed on the heritage sites,but changed the condition of heritage and overall environment,resulting in the contradiction between tourism development and heritage protection and the discussion on heritage authenticity in tourism.The interpretation and presentation of heritage in senic area directly affects tourism experience and tourists 'understanding of the Grand Canal heritage and war heritage in Taierzhuang.Therefore,it should be highly valued in the tourism development of heritage sites.Heritage interpretation and presentation is the subject of this research.With the data collected through field investigations and literature review,the composition and value of heritage in Taierzhuang were comprehensively analysed,and also discussed the problems of current heritage interpretation and presentation.Questionnaires,semi-constructed interview and field survey were combined in this research to collect the tourists' experience and evaluation of heritage interpretation and presentation,using to evaluate the work in Taierzhuang Historic Town and finding the existing problems,and contributed to easing conflicts between heritage and tourism in practice.It is confirmed in this research that the reconstruction of historic districts will not only cause the destruction of the heritage,but also mislead the tourists on heritage recognition about authenticity.The brief content and traditional method of heritage interpretation and presentation in Taierzhuang are not enough to improve public cognition of heritage,but will reduce tourist satisfaction,producing negative influence on tourism development.The interpretation and presentation work in Taierzhuang does not meet tourist expectations.In tourism development and heritage presentation,the authenticity of heritage is required by the majority of tourists and they also emphasise heritage conservation in current utilisation,showing the big gap between tourist expectation and the present model of heritage utilisation.It is further stated that damaging heritage damage for tourism development is totally wrong and unnecessary.Utilising heritage resources with fully understanding of their values and paying attention to the interpretation and presentation work of heritage in tourism developoment are necessary for tourism to play a role in heritage communication and enhance public awareness of heritage conservation.It is the key to realise sustainable development of tourism and heritage and also has practical significance for heirtage management and tourism development in heritage sites.
