Chinese overseas project contracting,as a significant way of international economic collaboration, began in 1970 s and developed on the basis of foreign aid, thriving with bright prospect after the adoption of the reform and opening-up policy. At present,China has been placed in top 10 project contracting countries in the world. The launching of overseas project contracting is built on the conclusion and signing of contracts.Translation,as a bridge between two languages, plays a fundamental and significant role in ensuring the smooth execution of contracts. The accurate translation of engineering contract exerted a positive influence on sino-foreign economic cooperation. The source text of this report is an engineering contract, which is entered into between a Chinese construction company and an Australian industrial investment company, being classified as an authentic legal text. After learning about the general features of legal texts, the writer put much emphasis on analyzing the specific features of this engineering contract. It is not hard to find out that lexicon translation is one of the main hindrances for translators. For instance, modal verbs, notional verbs, conjunctions, and engineering terminology are extremely common but difficult to translate. To solve the problems, this report provides effective strategies for lexicon translation, which contains verb translation, conjunction translation and engineering terminology translation.Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory, the translator strains after the preciseness, professionalism and stringency of English contract languages for avoiding unnecessary legal disputes. This report aims to presents some strategies or ways for lexicon translation of engineering contracts, expecting to bring guidance and reference to some degree to translators who devote in this field.
