With the development of urbanization in Hankow in modern times,The JiJi water&electric Company,as the largest public utilities in Hankow,has emerged and developed.The rise of water&electric utilities has greatly improved the quality of life of citizens and promoted Hankow Urbanization.However,the development of JiJi water&electric Company was not goes well.After the outbreak of counter-Japanese War,the water&electric utilities in Hankow was severely damaged and stagnated for a long time.After the War of Resistance Against Japanese aggression,through the support of the government and the efforts of the staff,The JiJi water&electric Company was able to recover quickly,ensuring the normal post-war urban demobilization and the stability of social order.However,because of the economic collapse,the economic environment of JiJi is unprecedentedly poor,the problems of lack of fuel,insufficient funds,and obsolete equipment have not been solved for a long time.The company has to persist in its operations by actively organizing internal management and seeking government support.Due to the increasing costs,the company has repeatedly raising the price of water and electricity to ease the financial crisis.However,this behavior was opposed by the public and caused the crisis mode to JiJi.Although the restoration of the JiJi Company can maintain the supply of water&electric in Hankow,the residents are still suffering from a shortage of water and electricity and high prices.More seriously,the lack of electricity also leads to a lack of motivation for the recovery of the business sector in Hankow.It lead to the production shrinks and Stimulated by rising prices,exacerbated the decline of the urban economy.The shortage of water and electricity also exposed the post-war decline in the governance capacity of the Hankow City Government,which together constituted the decline of the postwar KMT region.This article attempts to use the archives,newspapers,and related literature to discuss the rehabilitation,development,and several issues Hankow water&electric public utilities in post-war.
