Listening is a crucial means both in communication and getting information all the time.Especially in today's rapid developing society,it does play a vital role in people's daily communication activities.A study indicates that people have a tendency to spend 45 percent of their total time in listening,while about 30 percent in speaking,only 16 percent in reading and even 9 percent in writing.Meanwhile,the appearance of more and more listening courses and broadcast programs such as VOA Special English,VOA Standard English,CNN,NPR,and BBC etc.reflect higher requirements from society on learners' listening level.So,to learners,how to effectively improve their listening level seems urgent and necessary.To explore the effective ways of improving learner's listening comprehension level,a number of researchers both at home and abroad focus their attention on researches on listening strategies.Most researches choose university students as their subjects,and the results of researches mainly concentrate on three aspects:1)Researches on the difference of strategy use between different level learners2)Researches on the relationship between the strategies and learners' achievements3)Researches on strategy training for learnersThis study aimed at exploring the effects of listening strategy training on listening comprehension achievements of senior high school students.The study chose sixty-nine freshmen of Tianshui No.2 Senior High School,aging from 16-18 years old from the same class as subjects to participate.The subjects received listening strategy training from one teacher.Listening strategy training covered three dimensions:cognitive strategies,meta-cognitive strategies and social/affective strategies.Each concrete listening strategy contained three stages:explanation,demonstration and discussion.And the whole study lasted for 14 weeks from late February 2017 to June 2017.The study mainly adopted listening comprehension test paper(The National College Entrance Examination(2012;2014)),listening strategy questionnaire(Oxford(1990),O'Malley(1985),Rubin(1994),Wen Qiufang(1996))and an evaluation table of listening comprehension activity.Analyzing the results by SPSS20.0,main findings were presented as following:1.After 14-week strategy training,the students' frequency of listening strategy use has got a great improvement in general.The frequency of listening strategy use improved significantly on these strategies:planning strategy and evaluation strategy of meta-cognitive strategy;prediction strategy,key words strategy and note-taking strategy of cognitive strategy as well as questioning strategy of social/affective strategy.Though the frequency of social/affective strategy use has increased as a whole,the result seemed not significant.2.After 14-week strategy training,students' listening comprehension achievements have been significantly improved.Based on the results above,the study came to a conclusion in the last part of this thesis and discussed the effects of listening strategy training on listening comprehension of senior high school students.Besides,it also pointed out its limitations and put forward some suggestions for further study in the future.
