In the latter half of the 20th century, with the rise of IT,bioengineering and other technologies, mechanical reproduction and body modification become more and more active, the boundary between man and machine vaguer and the physical world and the nonphysical world intertwined.Anxiety resulted from the collapse of boundary has generated heated discussions over the identity of human-machine hybrid.Naturally, such a futuristic scientific fantasy is reflected upon and discussed over in film and television works. In various film and television works,human-machine hybrids with mechanical bodies(collectively,"Robot")mainly fall into two categories:A.Cyborg-a robot that retains human brain mechanism and adopts superior mechanical body to maximize the somatic function and B."AI"-a humanoid robot that is used as a tool, designated for a special purpose and able to think and perceive following the continuous optimization of technologies. In such works,human-machine hybrid subverts the traditional definition of"human".However, cognition of the identity of both AI which is almost mentally and intellectually similar to a natural person and Cyborg that owns a human mind and mechanical body inevitably deviates from that of a natural person in the course of technical transformation.Consequently, the dilemma of "almost human" or "neither fish nor fowl"has forced AI and Cyborg to seek their identities.Nonetheless,robot-relevant films and television works have reflected on the alienation of subject and cognition of the identity of natural person through the fabled writing of scientific future and post-human.Therefore,it is very necessary to study the fictional robot-relevant film and television works in the context of modern high-tech.In the robot-themed films and television works, the dilemma for AI and Cyborg to seek their identities is presented in the conflict between their flesh and mechanical body. But there is also a difference.AI,with dual identity of instrumental nature and independent personality, constantly walks on the verge of natural person, which makes it an embarrassing presence. While the symbiotic relationship between Cyborg's mechanical body and human soul deviates its self-cognition and makes its confusion on identity become increasingly visible during the recession of physical characteristics. On the other hand, the exploration of subjectivity is also a core issue for study on AI and Cyborg identity. The "nascent" AI doesn't have intact subjectivity, while being born in the human social ethics and injected with human thoughts,it gradually completes its exploration of subjectivity during its growth and becomes an independent individual.Cyborg's subjective appeal takes the form of "reverse".When the alienated body drives the sense of identity already developed away, the alienated robot returns to the mirror stage defined by Kant.In conclusion, films and television works focusing on robot embody profound scientific reflection and humanistic concern.Such philosophical thought and scientific outlook have been spread through media susceptible to public recognition.Therefore,robot-themed films and television works are of special practical and time significance in the high-tech context.
