On Structures And Semantic Features Of Eponyms And Eponymous Phrases

Eponyms and eponymous phrases refer to words or phrases derived from people's names.The structures of them are composed mainly of "name +X".There are a large number of eponyms and eponymous phrases in Chinese.This research focuese on the analysis of the structure and semantic features within eponyms and eponymous phrases.Chapter One introduces the reason why we choose this topic and defines the terms of this research.The Chinese term”???”is translated from the English word.Though the structures of eponyms look quite clear and simple,the internal structures are actually very different.In fact,eponyms and eponymous phrases have complex syntactic features and contain many different internal semantic relations.These facts greatly arouse our interest in research.Chapter Two summarizes the research on eponyms both at home and abroad.And we also summarize the related research,such as proper noun and the usage of attributive marker.At present,there is a large gap in the research at home and abroad.Compared with foreign studies,domestic research started relatively late,with few achievements and insufficient theoretical depth.Moreover,the research at home is relatively simple,mainly focused on semantic classification and etymological interpretation,and rarely involves syntactic and pragmatic studies.The study of the eponyms in China needs to be further strengthened.Chapter Three analyzes the structure of eponyms and eponymous phrases,and divides them into five types:modifier and the modified,subject and predicate,verb and object,juxtaposition and derivatives.According to statistics,the number of modifier-modified eponyms has absolute advantage,and the other four categories are much fewer.In the sixth edition of the dictionary of CilHai,the modifier-modified eponyms account for about 94.8%of the total number;in the dictionary of Shulihua Renming Xiaoying Dinglv Cidian,the modifier-modified eponyms account for about 93.9%of the total number.Chapter Four examines the semantic relationship within eponyms and eponymous phrases.First of all,we analyze the implicit predicates in eponyms.There are two kinds of predicates in eponyms.Then,we sort out the case relationships within eponyms.Finally,we have counted the types and quantities of predicates in eponyms of the dictionary Ci Hai.Chapter Five examines the usage of attributive marker in eponyms and eponymous phrases,and discusses when the attributive marker would appear,when would not and the reason of it.Chapter Six analyzes the productivity of eponyms and eponymous phrases,and concludes that the modifier-modified type and the derivative type are highly productive,and the subject-predicate type become to be quite productive on the Internet.
