In modern Chinese, the form of "lian A dai B" appears with great frequency, complex constitution, succinct form and rich semantic representation. It has been enriched and innovated in the process of language development. However, there still exist many problems in the previous studies. This paper, guided by the theory of "three planes", studies the internal components, syntactic functions, semantic relations, pragmatic value, expressional functions, the origin of this form and its development on the analysis of massive languages material. In Chapter One, we inspect the manifestation and change rules of the words or semantemes in this form through analyzing their syllables and part of speech. We find that in internal components, A and B could be words, semantemes and phrases; as for syllables, they could be monosyllabic, disyllabic and even polysyllabic; as for part of speech, they could be verbal, adjective, nominal and the additional words. We also study the syntactic functions of "lian A dai B". We find that this form can serve as predicate, attributive and adverbial. "lian" and "dai" also have the characteristics of conjunction. In Chapter Two, we study the semantic relations of "lian A dai B" from the internal and external angles. Due to the different characteristics of A and B, this form has different internal and external semantic relations. The meaning of the form has restrictive effects on its concrete grammatical meaning. We also analyze the ordering rule of A and B.In Chapter Three, we study the pragmatic characteristics and expressional functions of "lian A dai B". Its pragmatic characteristics embody in rhythm, type of writing, semantic representation, feeling and so on. Its expressional functions can be reflected in representation, nominatum, modification, etc. All of the above mentioned show the existence value of "lian A dai B".In Chapter Four, we analyze the origin, development, and generation mechanism of "lian A dai B" from a diachronic perspective which are good for our understanding of this form from diachronic and synchronic angles.
