Self-objectification indicates that sometimes the person re-examine themselves on a third person perspective,in this process,people treat themselves as an object or the object in other's eyes.According to the theory("Circle of Objectification")and the current social background(materialism),the intermediary model is constructed to illustrate how the media information and the competitive environment affect the relationship between women objectify themselves and objectify other women through social comparison and the capitalization of attractiveness.Besides,the study discussed intervention that defused the objectification of women.In study1,the subjects were 263 college students.Study1 investigated the difference between man and woman on self-objectification,objectification of same sex,objectification of opposite sex by using the Self-Objectification Question(SOQ),Others-Objectification Question(OOQ)on the Internet.Results showed that self-objectification and objectification of same sex of women were significantly higher than men,objectification of opposite sex of men were higher than women;specifically,women reported higher objectification of other women than men.In study2,there was a study design of 112 female college students.Study2a investigated the influence of different media information on objectification of female students by using the SOQ,OOQ,the Body Surveillance Scale(the subscale of Objectified Body Consciousness Scale)and Upward and Downward Appearance Comparison Scale(UDACS).The results showed that by exposure to sexual objectifying media,the level of objectification of other women,upward appearance comparison were significantly higher than women who were exposured to neutral media;upward appearance comparison could significantly predict the self-objectification and the body surveillance;The upward appearance comparison was the mediate variable,which effected media information and self-objectification,objectification of other women.In study2b,there was a study design of 113 female college students.Study2b investigated the influence of competitive environment on objectification of female students by using the SOQ,OOQ,the Body Surveillance Scale and Capitalize on Sexual Attractiveness Scale(CSA).The results showed that in competitive environment,the level of self-objectification were significantly higher than women who were in non-competitive environment;capitalize on sexual attractiveness could significantly predict the self-objectification and the body surveillance;The capitalize on sexual attractiveness was the mediate variable,which effected the level of competition and self-objectification,the body surveillance.In study3,there was a study design of 214 female college students.Study3 investigated the intervention of media information on the objectification of women by other women by using the SOQ,OOQ,and the Body Surveillance Scale.The results indicated when media information guided female students to pay attention to health or a woman who showed competence,they would objectified other women to a lesser extent,and cut down the objectification to themselves.In a word,the study aimed at exploring the objectification of women,and the results indicated women also objectified other women.Media information played an important role in this process.The positive intervention of media information could reduce the self-objectification of women and objectification to other women.
