| Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the possible influencing factors and internal mechanisms of social anxiety, and to verify the influence of short video media use on social anxiety and the mediating role of self-objectification and body image comparison, using body image as the medium and college students as the research object. Methods: The study used the Short Video Use Intensity Scale, the Interaction Anxiousness Scale, the Self-Objectification Question,The physical appearance compare-son scale,as well as the Chinese version of the Appearance Comparison Scale On Social Networking, and used the software SPSS21.0 for data analysis with 512 college students in school to explore the effects of college students’ short video media use on social anxiety, the self-objectification and body image comparison mediating effects. The second study used a structured interview method to conduct in-depth interviews with seven subjects, and conducted a deep coding analysis of the obtained subjects’ interview data through the research method of rooting theory to further explore in depth the effects of short video media use on college students‘ social anxiety.Results:(1)Short video media use significantly and positively predicted college students’ social anxiety levels(r=0.29,p<0.001);(2)There is a significant positive correlation between short video media use and self-objectification(r=0.10,p<0.05);There is a significant positive correlation between self-objectification and social anxiety(r=0.10,p<0.05);(3)There is a significant positive correlation between short video media use and body image comparison(r=0.23,p<0.001);There is a significant positive correlation between body image comparison and social anxiety(r=0.48,p<0.001);(4)The direct effect of short video media use on social anxiety was 0.10,accounted for 47.62% of the total effect of short video media use on social anxiety(0.21);The total indirect effect of self-objectification and body image comparison was0.11,accounting for 52.38%;Body image comparison alone mediation effect 0.10,accounting for 47.62% of the mediation effect; The chain mediating effect of selfobjectification and body image comparison was 0.01,4.76%.(5)Construct a model of the impact of short-video media use on social anxiety and delineate three main categories: short-video media, the impact of body image, and social anxiety.Conclusions:(1)Short video media use significantly and positively predicted college students’ social anxiety levels;(2)Self-objectification mediated the relationship between short video media use and social anxiety;(3)body image comparison mediated the relationship between short video media use and social anxiety;(4)Selfobjectification and body image comparison play a chain mediating role between short video media use and social anxiety.(5)The qualitative study constructed a model of the influence of short video media on social anxiety, verified that short video media influenced college students’ social anxiety through self-objectification and body image comparison, and also further explored the influence mechanism of the model. |
