Research On Gando Image In The Land By Park Kyung-ni Novel

Park Kyung-ni is the famous writer in modern Korea n literature.Her representative work "Land" has 20 vol umes in total.It has been published in various media for several times since the first episode was published in 1969 and 25 years later,it was completed in August,1994.The novel describes all sorts of encounters of the big f amily "Cui prosecutor" in the period from the end of Jo seon to Japanese colonial stage.The family declined grad ually after the owner of Cui family-Cui Zhixiu was killed.Zhao Junjiu and others were unscrupulous in their atte mpts to usurp Cui's family properties.In the time of Jo seon becoming Japanese colony,the Cui family fled to G ando overnight in order to save lives.The daughter of Cu i Zhixiu---Cui Ruixi overcame a series of difficulties an d setbacks courageously in order to seize the Cui's fami ly properties back,bought back the place and houses an d finally went back to the hometown.In addition to the above character,the members of Cui's family,servants,villagers and other two-class family in the novel came o nto the stage and showed their demeanours.Among many literature products taking Gando as bac kground,most of them integrated writers' own experienc e in Gando into the works,which means almost all the writers more or less ever lived in Gando.However,Park Kyung-ni had never been or lived in this place while she was writing "Land".It is apparent that she valued this place so much.Therefore,this essay analyzed the chara cter image and social phenomenon under this backgroun d in the second volume of "Land" to explore the intenti ons why the writer chose Gando to be the space backgro und of Vol.2,using space image to research the reason of choosing Gando as story background.The essay focus es on the image of the place of the novel "Land",which bases on historical facts but the characters are dummy characters created by the writer.Therefore,analyzing the incident descriptions and characters' image can deeply reflect the Joseon and Gando "True Face" under the go verment of Japanese Imperialism.The essay reached the reason of writer's choosing Ga ndo as story background by the analysis and research of space image of the Island.Furthermore,the reflection of the true face of Joseon and Gando which is acquired by the analysis of incident descriptions and character imag e has the significant influence on the research of China i mage in the Korean literature.
