Writing is an important part in junior middle school English teaching.Learners' writing reflects their language comprehension and application ability directly.However,English learners' writing ability can not reach the expected standard.Therefore,to improve the level of students' English writing has become a hot research area.However,in the process of teaching,the teaching methods of traditional English writing can not meet all the requirements of improving students' writing ability or stimulating their learning interest.Memetics is a concept based on Darwin's theory of evolution,which is to explain the law of cultural development.The linguistic memetics which is formed by combining memetics with linguistics and pragmatics provides an effective way to enrich the language of human beings,and it also provides a new way of researching for language teaching.Based on the life cycle of memetics,this study combines memetics with English writing teaching and constructs a writing teaching model,and applies it to teaching.Considering the characteristics of junior middle school students,this paper attempts to apply memetics to the English writing teaching of junior middle school,which aims to test whether writing teaching based on memetics can improve students' English writing ability.In order to explore the effects of teaching method applied in English writing teaching of junior middle school,the author carried out a four-month teaching experiment at No.5 Middle School in Luohe,Henan.The subjects of research are the seventh grade of students from two parallel classes,a total of 146 students.And it aims to answer the following questions:(1)What is the English writing teaching model based on the life cycle of memes?(2)What impact does the teaching model of English writing based on memetics have on junior middle school students' English writing ability?(3)How can the teaching model of English writing based on memetics help students enhance their interests of English writing?This thesis provides a systematical literature review on the application of memetics in English writing.It also probes into the theoretical basis of this research and explores the effects of memetics on English writing in junior middle school with concrete ways of teaching steps,writing tests,interviews and questionnaires,etc.The experimental research and data show that the average score of students in experimental class is obviously higher than that of the control class,which means that memetics teaching method is of great help in improving students' English writing ability.In addition,during the process of interviews,it is found that most of students have harbored a positive view of the application of memetics in writing teaching and this method also arouses students' interests and improves their confidence in English writing.
