Emotional expressivity is the degree in which people express their emotional stimulation by acting.Not only does the process,emotional expression that people use to express their internal emotional experience by external explicit action,make the exchange in interpersonal interaction possible,but also release the emotional stress,which exerts an important influence in the formation of interpersonal relationship and the maintaining of both physical and mental health.Recent years,the research of emotional expressivity has been valued much more by both international and domestic scholars gradually.The college life,as a transition phase between school and society,is a very important period for the development and steadiness of an undergraduate's personality.The study of the conditions of undergraduate's emotional expression,the comprehending of the relationship between personality trait and emotional expressivity and the factors,empathy for example,which have influence in the relationship,and the mechanism it works,have very important meanings in verifying and the improvement of the undergraduates' emotional-express performance.This study did an empirical study of the relationship between the Big Five Personality,the ability of empathy and the emotional expressivity of undergraduates.It did that by doing a 515-people questionnaire based on Neuroticism Extraversion Openness Five-Factor Inventory(NEO-FFI),the Chinese version of Interpersonal Reactivity Index(IRI-C)and the Chinese version of Berkley Expressivity Questionnaire(BEQ-C).Here is the conclusion:(1)Overall,the undergraduates' personality structures are pretty good,and their empathy abilities are above-average.The will of emotion expression are strong.As for the type of emotion expression,the undergraduates trend to express their positive emotions more sufficiently but to inhibit their passive emotions.(2)There are gender differences in undergraduates' emotional expressivity.In detail,female undergraduates are more likely to express their emotions,no matter positive or passive,than male undergraduates.(3)There is correlation between the Big Five Personality,the ability of empathy and the emotional expressivity of undergraduates.In detail,The extraversion,agreeableness and empathy have prominent positive influence toward positive expressivity;The neuroticism,extraversion and the emotional expressivity have prominent positive influence toward negative expressivity;The openness,and the agreeableness have prominent passive influence toward negative expressivity;The conscientiousness and the empathy have prominent passive influence toward negative inhibition;The neuroticism,extraversion,openness and the empathy have prominent positive influence toward positive impulse strength;The empathy have prominent positive influence toward negative impulse strength.(4)The empathy acts as a intermediary between an undergraduate's personality and emotional expressivity.In detail,The empathy acts as a positive total intermediary between positive expressivity and neuroticism,openness respectively;It acts as a positive part intermediary between positive expressivity and extraversion,agreeableness respectively,between negative expressivity and neuroticism,extraversion,openness,agreeableness respectively;It acts as a passive total intermediary between negative inhibition and neuroticism,extraversion,openness,agreeableness respectively;It acts as a positive part intermediary between positive impulse strength and neuroticism,extraversion,openness respectively;It acts as a positive total intermediary between positive impulse strength and agreeableness.
