In the teaching course of English teachers,teaching design embodies teaching objectives,knowledge content,teaching activities,learning skills,and what resources to use and others to accomplish teaching objectives.Good English teaching design is the foundation of good courses,and reflects the professional quality of English teachers and provides English teachers with much confidence.In a word,a good English class teaching design plays an irreplaceable role in English class.English Subject Core Competence consists of the following four parts: Linguistic competence,thinking quality,cultural disposition and learning abilities.English teaching design should be guided by the English Subject Core Competence of English subject.That is,every teaching step ought to center around the cultivation of English Subject Core Competence of students.Taking into consideration English Subject Core Competencies,the author takes text analysis,classroom observation and interview as the instruments,and collects the data via analyzing 20 English teaching designs,having 15 classroom observations and interviewing 5 English teachers in high school.We summarize the following problems in the current teaching design in high school : 1.It is a common problem of paying too much attention to language-knowledge-based in English classroom in the high school;2.Most of English teaching design lacks students' analysis and summary,and lacks substantive content analysis;3.Emotional goals are far-fetched.The main reasons for the above problems as follows: 1.The restriction and limitation of exam-oriented education;2.Most English teachers ignore the classroom instructional design and avoid the discussion;3.English Subject Core Competence is new concept for many teachers,thus,they are not familiar with it.As for this,the author offers the following suggestions for English class teaching design in high school: 1.Subject teachers should pay attention to the understanding and application of core competence;2.In the teaching design,teachers should be concerned about the internal logical structure of the text and refine the integration of internal knowledge structure;3.The teaching objectives should reflect the core competence of English subjects;4.Teaching activities should organically connect with core competence.The author also observed cases of listening,speaking,reading and writing classes in English class in high school.The author provided some references and suggestions in teaching design.However,this article also has some limitations.It also requires professionals to give further correction and analysis.
