Core Competencies are becoming the soul idea of curriculum reform in the new period.Cultivating students‘ Core Competencies is the inevitable trend of the current education reform.The Core Competencies of English Subject mainly refer to the basic knowledge,skills,emotions,concepts,and qualities of relevant English disciplines obtained by students through English class education and their own practice and cognitive activities.English teaching design should be guided by the Core Competencies of English Subject,which means every link of teaching design should reflect the Core Competencies of English Subject,and finally point to the cultivation of students‘ Linguistic Knowledge & Skills,Critical Thinking,Culture Awareness and Learning Ability.There are also related studies on the Core Competencies of English Subject and the design of senior high school English teaching in China.However,the research on English teaching design based on English Subject Core Competencies is rarely used in the implementation of the specific senior high school English teaching.This has attracted more scholars and also the author‘s attention and research in this field.Therefore,the author tries to take the Core Competencies of the English Subject as the guiding thought,starting from the present situation of English classroom teaching design in high school to explore the design method and research direction of effective senior high school English classroom teaching design.Taking No.2 Experimental Senior High School in Liupanshui City as an example,this study mainly discusses the following issues through teaching design analysis,classroom observation,interviews and student questionnaires: 1.What is the current status of senior high school English teaching design from the perspective of the Core Competencies of English Subject? 2.What are the problems in the design of senior high school English teaching from the perspective of the Core Competencies of English Subject? What are the causes?After researching,the author found that there are some problems in the current senior high school English teaching design.Firstly,a lot of English teachers in her school have a good command of teaching theory on the new curriculum and the Core Competencies of English Subject,but they cannot turn their theoretical ideas into real teaching designs.Second,it is found that some teachers are not active to make specific teaching design.Granted that some teachers are willing to make a teaching design,there is a gap between their practical performance and their teaching ideas,resulting in poor teaching effect.Based on the investigation,the causes for the above problems include: 1.Teachers are satisfied with the status quo,lack creativity and do not think about changing,resulting in low teaching design ability.2.Core Competencies of English are a new concept,which have not been widely used and popularized.Therefore,the author puts forward pedagogical suggestions on how to make an English teaching design in senior high school,which provide some references for high school English teachers to take into consideration in the teaching design based on the Core Competencies of English Subject.
