| In 2017,the Ministry of Education officially announced the revised National English Curriculum Standards of Senior High School.Its core concept is to train students’ English Subject Core Competencies,and advocate English teachers to practice the view of English learning activities in the teaching process in order to promote the effective formation of students Core Competencies.Cultivating students’ Core Competencies is the general trend for current education reform.And the proposal of English Subject Core Competencies indicates that China has put forward new requirements for the quality of talents.English Subject Core Competencies mainly include four aspects: linguistic knowledge,cultural awareness,thinking quality and learning ability.In junior high school English teaching,reading teaching plays a critical role.So,how to design English reading teaching effectively to develop students’ reading competencies under the guidance of English Subject Core Competencies becomes a question worthy of further discussion.Based on English Subject Core Competencies and combining the theory of Input Hypothesis,Affective Filter Hypothesis and Proximal Development Zone,this research explores whether English reading teaching design of English teachers in junior high school meets the requirements of English Subject Core Competencies,and how to design English reading teaching under the guidance of English Subject CoreCompetencies.The following three research questions are to be solved:(1)What is the current status of English reading teaching design based on English Subject Core Competencies in junior high school?(2)What are the reasons for English teachers’ problems in English reading teaching design based on English Subject Core Competencies in junior high school?(3)What are the effective strategies to design English reading teaching of junior high school to improve students’ reading competencies from the perspective of English Subject Core Competencies?Using the instruments of text analysis,classroom observation and interview,the author tracks the reading teaching of five English teachers for one semester,selects ten reading lesson plans as the analysis text.According to the requirements of Core Competencies,specific to the guiding principles of reading teaching design,this thesis sets up an evaluation plan of reading teaching design from the aspects of reading ability and reading character based on previous studies,and analyzes ten teaching designs.Then,the writer observes corresponding classrooms,and interviews these five teachers.After that,the author analyzes and discusses the collected data.The research results are as follows.Firstly,as far as the current status of junior high school English reading teaching design is concerned,on the one hand,English teachers’ reading teaching designs can pave certain language knowledge for students before reading and develop students to use some simple readingstrategies based on the understanding of the text.On the other hand,the problems of teaching designs are mainly reflected as follows.In terms of cultivating students’ reading ability,the design of teaching activities is relatively unitary,focusing too much on “reading” and comprehension activities,but less on application and innovation activities.And teachers still focus on language knowledge,neglecting to guide students to explore language characteristics and appreciate rhetoric in the upper grades.As for the development of students’ reading character,English teachers do not recognize the importance of providing students with a positive reading experience and cultivating students’ autonomous learning habits when designing English reading teaching.Secondly,this article draws the following reasons.Teachers do not have a sufficient understanding of English Subject Core Competencies.Teachers mainly use textbooks as reading teaching materials,and rarely use extracurricular reading materials with multiple styles and topics.Teachers do not design English reading teaching strictly from the perspective of English Subject Core Competencies for the purpose of cultivating students’ reading ability and reading character.Thirdly,from the perspective of reading ability and reading character,this thesis proposes the following suggestions for junior high school English reading teaching design based on English Subject Core Competencies.English teachers should actively learn English SubjectCore Competencies,and combine the design of English reading activities with English Subject Core Competencies.To cultivate students’ reading ability,English teachers should stimulate students’ interests on reading through effectively designing reading teaching activities,integrate the learning of language knowledge into the process of reading comprehension and teach students to use effective reading strategies.In terms of cultivate students’ reading character,teachers should focus on providing an active reading experience for students and cultivate students’ initiative learning consciousness.This research has certain reference significance for exploring the teaching design of English reading in junior middle school.However,this thesis also has certain limitations because of the limitation of the author’s ability. |
