Lexical chunk has become a hot issue in language academics for the recent decades.In China,it is developing rapidly and being constantly focused on the language teaching.Lexical chunk facilitates second and foreign language learners as well as native learners,which has been proved by relevant empirical data.Teaching reading is an important element in senior high school English class.Reading is one of the important ways for language acquisition,and also an important method of language input in language teaching.Based on this,this thesis attempts to discuss how to apply the lexical chunks teaching approach in teaching English reading in senior high schools to develop students' English reading proficiency.This thesis mainly focused on the following three questions: First,can lexical chunk teaching approach enhance students' interests in English reading? Second,can lexical chunk teaching approach improve the speed of students' English reading?Third,can lexical chunk teaching approach improve students' proficiency in English reading? This thesis adopted questionnaires,tests,and interviews.The results of the thesis were combined using quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis,and SPSS19.0 software was used for data statistics and comparative analysis.The experiment treated 80 students of two classes in No.3 High School,Linghai City as the study object,and the study lasted for 16 weeks.Two tests,two questionnaires and one interview are used to collect data.The results of the pre-test showed that obvious differences did not exist between the experimental class and the control class in English reading competence.Results after the teaching experiment showed that the Experimental Class student's English level was significantly higher than before.Based on the statistical analysis of the experimental data and survey data,this experiment concluded that applying the lexical chunks teaching approach in senior high school can enhance students' interest in English reading,applying the lexical chunks teaching approach can improve the students' reading speed,applying the lexical chunks teaching approach was helpful to improve the students' English reading proficiency.To make language teaching more pluralistic,the application of Lexical chunk would be a good choice and supplement.At the same time,the researcher also analyzed the shortcomings of the teaching experiment and put forward suggestions and prospects for the future teaching research.
