Cultivating Students' Oral Competence In Middle School By BOXFISH-aided Learning Platform: An Empirical Study

Chinese students have always had the problem of "strong writing ability and insufficient oral ability" in their English learning due to lack of English language environment.Students' ability to use the language is so poor that it is hard to speak English.However,nowadays,computer aided instruction(CAI)enters China,especially the network resource is increasingly abundant,English teaching can get a new way of thinking and a new mode of teaching.But there is little research on how to choose the suitable network resources,how to make use of network resources for teaching design,so as to achieve effective teaching aids,to increase students' training opportunities and to improve students' oral skills.Based on a popular English learning software,this paper tries to make teaching design according to some theoretical basis,and proves whether the teaching design is feasible through test results.To this end,the author conducted a teaching experiment of 12 teaching weeks in 3months,mainly studying students' oral English learning and the changes of corresponding language skills.The two classes were treated as experimental group and control group respectively.The students in the experimental group study oral English through BOXFISH English learning software and the offline courses based on software design.Different classroom activities are carried out for different types of lesson to practice speaking in independent practice,pair work and group work,etc.The control group took the traditional listening and speaking class to study oral English.After the teaching experiment,we tested the oral English of two classes to compare the teaching effect,and found that the experimental group had a certain improvement in pronunciation,grammar and fluency compared with the control group.the results showed that this kind of way was recognized by students,they think learning software can provide materials and scenarios which was close to their daily lives.It can also give corresponding guidance to the independent practice,which can help students to correct themselves.Based on the experience results and the observation in the process of the experience,some teaching suggestions are put forward in the last(at the end).The author thinks that in the network resources aided instruction,teachers need to find out the problems encountered bystudents in independent study through offline communication,and summarize and adjust them in time so as to achieve better teaching results.
