This report was based on the English-Chinese translation practice of Wall,Window,World,which is the first book to survey the work of painter and printmaker Tom Hammick.It is mainly dealt with Tom Hammick's painting skills and his artist life,as well as his cooperation with other artists.Hopefully,the author of this report trying to conclude some methods for the artistic text translation through this translation project.From the perspective of text typology theory raised by Newmark,this report tries to explore translation methods for the E-C artist informative text.The general information of the translation project and the translating-process are introduced ahead.The core of this report would be thoroughly explored in the case study,which analyses the difficulties and concludes some methods during the translation process in accordance with the theory involved earlier.Thanks to the text type theory of Newmark,the selected texts would be classified into different text types.In the light of text type and linguistic function,literal translation,free translation,amplification should be adopted during the vocabularies,sentences and paragraphs analyzing.Finally,it is a briefly summary of the whole report which holds that the translation of artist informative text should cover accuracy,integrity and coherence;translators should bear in mind that the abilities of information search and selection are crucial during the process of translation;translators should have an intensive awareness of avoiding omitting or mistranslation with much information.And hopefully,this paper will have some referential values for the study on the translation of art texts.
