English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017)points out that,“the senior high school English teaching should take advantage of information technology and modern teaching methods.” At the same time, however,it should be realized that “the employment of information technology can not replace the traditional classroom teaching model.” Therefore, the application of the Blended Learning model in high school English teaching, which combines the advantages of the online learning and those of the traditional classroom learning is worth consideration.Applying the Blended Learning model, teachers can not only teach English online, but also carry out activities and communicate with their students online. What's more, the students are able to use the online platform to study by themselves and share ideas with each other. This thesis focuses on the application of the Blended Learning in the English reading class and examines its effects on English reading.Based on the previous research and three theories, the research aims to measure the impacts of applying the Blended Learning model. Two classes from a local high school with similar reading levels were chosen to conduct a one-term experiment.Class Two,with 60 students, served as the experimental class.Class Three, with 58 students, was the control class.Questionnaires, focal group discussions and tests were adopted in the experiment and collected data were analyzed by the SPSS 17.0.According to a detailed analysis of the data, the major findings can be concluded as follows:1)Compared the reading scores of the two classes tested before and after the experiment,it is found that the reading scores of the E Group are higher than those of the C Group. That is to say, compared with traditional teaching methods, the Blended Learning has a more positive effect on students' reading scores.2)The Blended Learning has a positive effect on students' reading interest and reading attitudes.Compared with the traditional teaching method, the Blended Learning can increase student' reading interest, and develop positive attitudes towards reading.3)The Blended Learning has an effect on students' learner autonomy.Specifically, the Blended Learning has a significant effect on students' autonomous ability and self-management ability, while there is no obvious difference in students' autonomous psychology after applying the Blended Learning model.Based on these results, this researcher believes that the Blended Learning is an effective model for English reading teaching. In order to maximize its effectiveness, teachers should not only provide students with appropriate learning materials, but also give students proper guidance. Most importantly, students' autonomous learning awareness and ability should be developed, and this model makes achieving that goal more possible.
