Reading is an important skill for acquiring knowledge and it is also an integral part of language ability.The English Curriculum Standard stipulates the cultivation of English reading ability as an important part of English teaching.The improvement of reading ability not only requires students to master language knowledge and basic reading skills,but also requires students to think about articles by themselves.Through thinking,students can construct individual's cognition of articles and create thinking products.At the present stage of English reading teaching,English teachers over-emphasize the training of grammar points and single reading skills,ignoring the guidance of self-construction and text analysis.The traditional English reading teaching method limits students' thinking.Students gradually lose interest in reading during their teaching,which makes it difficult to improve their reading ability.This paper applies mind map to junior high school English reading teaching to improve students' English reading ability,divergent thinking ability and reading interest.Mind map is an effective tool to pattern divergent thinking.The construction of mind map can help readers to deepen understanding of article structure and content,and enrich readers' understanding of the theme of articles.In foreign countries,the study of mind map has matured,and mind map has been widely applied to daily reading.The study of domestic mind map is more theoretical.It is necessary to increase the study on application of mind map to junior high school English reading teaching.Based on the theory of Constructivism and Schema Theory,this paper studies the application of mind map in junior high school English reading.This paper mainly studies the following three questions:(1)Can the application of mind map improve students' English reading ability?(2)Can the application of mind map improve students' divergent thinking ability in English reading?(3)Can the application of mind map arouse students' interest in reading English?First this article sorts out definitions of key concepts and expounds the theoretical basis of the application of mind map to English reading teaching.Second,questionnaires,interview,and tests are used to study the influence of mind map on students' reading ability,divergent thinking ability and reading interest.There are two parallel classes in the Grade Eight,one is the control class with the application of mind map,and the other is treated as a control class with the traditional reading teaching.At the end of the experiment,all data of the two classes is analyzed by SPSS.The research shows that application of mind map in English reading teaching can improve students' reading ability,strengthen students' divergent thinking ability,and stimulate students' reading interest.
