Research On The Construction Of "Cultural China" Image From The BBC

The shaping and dissemination of national image is an important issue in the context of economic globalization.With the continuous improvement of China' s economic status,the Chinese government has played an increasingly important role in the international arena and has increasingly attached importance to the country ' s image,A good national image is conducive to enhancing international competitiveness and gaining more voice.The shaping of the national image is a complex process of communication involving different sources.As one of the sources,documentary is the true objectivity of its content,the universality of the selected topic and the vividness of the visual expression,which plays an irreplaceable role in the process of the communication of the national image."Cultural China" is a concept proposed in relation to political China and economic China.It considers China's national image from a cultural perspective.Creating a "cultural China"image can eliminate the cognitive bias brought about by political,economic and other aspects in terms of the country's image soft power.The documentary produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC)has been well-known for its well-produced and widely acclaimed documentaries.This article analyzes the "Chinese New Year" and "Chinese Story"of the BBC China-related documentary to understand the "cultural China" image it presents and the narrative strategy of constructing the image.The study finds that these two documentaries jointly presented a warm,friendly,and civilized attitude in an objective and neutral manner through the three aspects of China's unique spiritual and cultural symbols,the Chinese community that broke through geographical boundaries,and the cultural elements projected in politics and economic systems.Open,full of vitality and vitality,with a profound cultural and historical heritage of the "cultural China" image.Based on this,from the aspects of narrative perspective,narrative structure,narrative language and narrative approach,this paper analyzes the narrative strategies of documentary construction of "cultural China"image.Further,from the perspective of cross-cultural communication,this study explores the inspiration of the documentary on the construction of a "cultural China" image:promoting distinctive traditional culture,grasping the emotional resonance of Eastern and Western cultures,integrating the perspectives of Eastern and Western narratives,and focusing on individual individuals And narrative in an international way.
