Chinese traditional landscape painting has a long history,each period of famous masters make great achievements ? numerous schools and their works are inherited orderly,which play an important part in Chinese cultural history.As the head of "Jinling painting School" in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties,Gong Xian's style of landscape painting is unique and his pen and ink method are thick and heavy,especially his method of accumulating ink has a profound influence on later generations' landscape painting.As the most basic formal language of painting,"brush and ink" is regarded as the most basic formal language of painting,which is a vital carrier in the creation.For studying landscape painting,copying traditional classical landscape works is the only route,which must be passed.This paper studies Gong Xian's landscape painting techniques and the factors that affect the formation of Gong Xian's landscape characteristics,while analysing for reference,then applies his research feelings inti his own landscape sketching and creative practice.Since ancient times,the "layout" and "artistic conception" of "pen and ink" and "artistic conception" are three elements of a landscape painting,and they are interrelated,and the merits and demerits of artistic conception come from the use of pen and ink,in which the method of stroke and ink is fundamental.At the same time,it is very important for studying the techniques of pen and ink to explore the artistic characteristics of Gong Xian and his Map of thousands of Rocks.O nly by constantly combining with studying the ancients?learning nature and following your own heart for sublimation,from tradition to sketch,as well as innovation and creation,can we go out of a real road of landscape painting creation.Therefore,this paper takes Gong Xian's masterpiece,Map of thousands of Rocks,as a case study,with its artistic life,pen and ink characteristics,inheritance and innovation as the clue,through his own copying practice,sketching practice,creative practice experience,applies in his own creative practice.
