At present,the English curriculum standards have been fully implemented.The standard requires teachers to guide students in the English reading class to use critical thinking to think about issues so that students can be informed and have their own knowledge in their own learning life.It is suggested that teachers use the form of prediction,guidance,and questioning to develop students' critical thinking through the design of appropriate classroom activities,and cultivate students' practical ability and innovative spirit to further improve their English reading ability.This paper aims to study the application of critical reading in junior high school English reading teaching.There are two research questions:First,what is the effect of Critical Reading on junior high school students' English achievement?Second,what is the effect of Critical Reading on the cultivation of students' critical thinking?The author used a questionnaire survey to understand the problems existing in the students'reading before the experiment and the students' attitudes toward reading after the experiment,and to explore the impact of critical reading on improving students' reading ability.For the test results,the author designed the pre-test and post-test,then compared the students' academic performance before and after critical reading.From the test results,it can be seen that critical reading is a better way to improve students' language ability,which can promote students to actively participate in classroom learning activities,so as to improve middle school students' English reading ability and performance.It is of great practical significance to improve the performance of English reading.
