As a high level reading activities,critical reading requires readers can comprehensively understand passages and exchange ideas with the author through some high level reading strategies such as predicting,analyzing,inferring,evaluating,etc.with their existing experience and background knowledge.In this process,readers exchange their opinions with the writer,experience the story behind texture content,built their own inner thoughts,transform their way of thinking and even actions,and finally achieve self-regulating.Therefore,it's very necessary to apply critical reading teaching for junior high school students in accordance with the demands of talent,the teaching requirements of junior English reading teaching.In critical reading teaching class,teacher stimulates students' positive thinking and fosters their critical reading abilities.This thesis defined the essential definition about critical reading and theoretically explained the necessity of applying critical reading teaching in junior high English class based on the theory of Constructivism and the related researches both in China and outside China.The author in this thesis applied the research method like interview,questionnaires,test and data analysis.The author chose the two parallel classes as the research subjects.In the teaching experiment,the critical reading teaching is applied in experiment class while the classic English reading teaching is applied in control class.First,the author conducted the test and questionnaires before and after experiment,which aims to know the real condition of reading abilities and the using frequency about reading strategies.In addition,the author also conducted questionnaire and interview for experiment class to know the influence of critical reading teaching about experiment English study and reading.Based on the research,the author found that:(1)Critical reading teaching can increase students' using frequency of critical reading strategies.(2)Critical reading teaching can improve students' reading abilities.(3)Critical reading teaching can improve students' interest and confidence about English reading.
