Since the Second World War,the research on translation of biography has become a new topic at home and abroad.Biographical translation plays an important role in translation. The source text of this translation practice, commissioned by Gansu Cultural Translation and Interpreting Center,is selected from the eleventh chapter to the sixteenth chapter of Rewi Alley of China, which can provide a reference for target readers.Target readers are likely to have a better understanding of the international spirit of Rewi Alley who had contributed greatly to the Chinese people's liberation and its development. The report is guided by Toury's operational norms theory,a branch of translation norms.Operational norms theory mainly contains matricial norms and textual-linguistic norms. From the view of matricial norms, the translator adopts relevant translation skills to analyze some typical examples to make the target readers have a better understanding of the translation, such as amplification, division and postposition. From the prospective of textual-linguistic norms, the translator adopts some relevant translation methods, including literal translation and free translation. The report is expected to provide clues for the translators who are engaged in biography translation. This report consists of five parts. The first part is the introduction of the project, including background of the task and the purposes of the task. The second part introduces task description that mainly is composed of source text analysis and requirements from the entrusting party. The third part describes the translation process and implementations, containing before translation, while translation as well as after translation. The fourth part is a brief description of a case analysis, the main part of the report, aiming to solve some difficulties of translation. The last part is a conclusion of reflections and implications for further translation studies.
