Language is the carrier of culture and presents in different aspects.Culture and language depend on each other and enjoy the mutual concerns.Consequently,vocabulary teaching as an extremely vital role in the whole process of language teaching involves not only the pronunciation,spelling,meaning but also the culture,especially the intercultural awareness.Because Kyrgyz and English language culture are different,the cultural meaning of lexicon is also quite different.Therefore,English vocabulary teaching should pay attention to Kyrgyz students' understanding of cultural knowledge background and cultivation of their intercultural awareness.Through the study of domestic literature,the author has found that researches on cultural significance of acquisition and teaching of English vocabulary are mostly about Han students,and researches about minority students mainly focus on language transfer and theory of learning.There are few researches on lexical cultural cultivation about Kyrgyz students.Therefore,this study attempts to take Kizilsu Kyrgyz Autonomous Prefecture No.3 middle school Kyrgyz students as the research subjects.In order to improve the students' intercultural awareness and improve their English vocabulary level,the author used a variety of vocabulary teaching methods to integrate intercultural knowledge into vocabulary teaching.Vocabulary cultural connotation tests,questionnaires and interviews were used to investigate the current situation of Kyrgyz students' acquisition of English vocabulary cultural connotations to further improve the effectiveness of English vocabulary teaching.In order to figure out whether cultivation of intercultural awareness has a positive effect on the English vocabulary teaching in senior middle school,the author puts forward the following two research questions:(1)Can the cultivation of intercultural awareness in English vocabulary teaching improve the Kyrgyz students' English vocabulary level?(2)What are the attitudes of senior middle school Kyrgyz students toward the cultivation of intercultural awareness in English vocabulary teaching?Based on the teaching experiment,questionnaire and interview,this study accomplished both qualitative and quantitative research.And through the analysis and discussion of the collected data andinformation from the experiment,the research draws the following conclusions:(1)the cultivation of intercultural awareness in English vocabulary teaching can improve the Kyrgyz students' English vocabulary level;(2)Kyrgyz students hold positive attitudes towards the cultivation of intercultural awareness in the English vocabulary teaching.Based on the analysis of experiment results,some implications of the major findings for teaching practice are propose in the last chapter and the limitation of this study,and given some suggestions to the related research in this filed.
